About Us
Welcome to CMO Netball club. We were formed in 1965 by 2 women who wanted to play netball in the Croydon Netball league. At the start, CMO netball club was part of CMO Athletic club and was only for people who worked for the Croydon Council, hence the name Croydon Municipal Officers. Over the years, many people from other professions have joined the club and now very few people work for the council!! We currently have two teams which play every Saturday in the Croydon Netball League and the Metropolitan League. CMO also run Junior sessions and Back to Netball sessions every Wednesday 7-8pm at Shirley High School where anyone of any level of ability or fitness is welcome to come along and join in some training and games for fun.
Our aims are:
•To develop the skills of all players no matter what there ability is.
•To have regular match practice to help develop match understanding
•To have fun and enjoyment at each session
•To make new friends
•To understand the importance of exercise
•To instill a lifelong positive attitude towards netball
•To continue playing netball into adulthood.
Training
We train every Wednesday evening from 8.00pm-9.30pm at Shirley High School. Every member of the club has to be affiliated in order to play league matches. Players receive a magazine and membership to England Netball for this price.
We train from September through to May but also enter a summer league in June and July for some fun matches. During the school holidays we do not train as we have found that many people are away on holiday.
Fundraising
We actively support the club by taking part in fundraising events as well as social events at the end of each year. These include quizzes, silent disco, sponsored events, mixed rally, bowling and annual family BBQ’s. Members are encouraged to attend these events as it helps support and create a friendly club.
Coaching
The club coach is Jo Handley who is a Level 2 qualified netball coach.
Back to Netball has been a very successful addition to the club and is coached by two of our club members Sarah Handley and Jo Handley. Jo is a Level 2 qualified netball coach and has received her Child Protection certificate as well as being First Aid trained. (If you would like to see her certificates then please ask).
Junior sessions run alongside the Back to Netball so that it gives the opportunity for mums and daughters to attend together.
